As China’s first Universal theme park, Universal Beijing Resort has 7 movie-themed areas. This guide covers must-play rides, tickets, transport and tips for international visitors.
Located in the Cultural Tourism Zone of Tongzhou District, Beijing, Universal Beijing Resort is the fifth Universal Studios theme park in the world, the third in Asia, and China’s first immersive movie entertainment resort integrating global IPs and local culture. Covering an area of over 4 square kilometers, the resort officially opened in 2021, consisting of Universal Studios Beijing Theme Park, Universal CityWalk Beijing, and two themed hotels. Centered on “empowering entertainment through movies”, it has created seven immersive themed areas, transforming classic film IPs such as Harry Potter, Transformers, and Jurassic World into tangible, experiential real scenes. Attracting millions of Chinese and foreign tourists every year to embark on a light and shadow adventure, it has become a iconic cultural tourism destination in Beijing.

As Universal Pictures’ flagship project in China, Universal Beijing Resort not only inherits the core genes of global Universal parks but also integrates distinct Chinese elements. Among them, “Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness” is the first themed area in global Universal parks centered on a Chinese IP, achieving a perfect integration of international IPs and local culture. The overall design of the resort focuses on immersive experience, with architectural styles, scene layouts, and character interactions highly restoring film plots, making visitors feel as if they “step into the movies”. Whether it’s Hogwarts Castle in the hearts of Harry Potter fans, the Transformers Metrobase sought after by mecha fans, or Minion Land loved by families, it can meet the playing needs of different groups, combining excitement, fun, and ornamental value.
The seven themed areas are the core charm of Universal Beijing Resort, each with unique features and diverse gameplay. “The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™” is undoubtedly the most popular area, highly restoring classic scenes from the Harry Potter film series. Hogwarts Castle stands majestically, Diagon Alley is lined with shops, and scenes such as wand shops and owl post offices are all available. The must-play ride “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey™” adopts 4D dynamic technology. Visitors will take a magic seat to shuttle between the castle corridors and the Forbidden Forest, experiencing a fantastic adventure with Harry and Ron, and immersively feeling the magic of the wizarding world. In addition, “Flight of the Hippogriff™”, a medium-thrill roller coaster, is suitable for the whole family to experience, flying over Hagrid’s pumpkin patch and overlooking the entire wizarding world. The castle light show at night is not to be missed, with light and shadow intertwined with music, reproducing classic clips from the movies, creating a full sense of atmosphere.

“Transformers Metrobase” is the first choice for thrill-seeking visitors, with a futuristic sci-fi scene design restoring the style of Cybertron. The “Megatron Roller Coaster” in the area is known as the most thrilling ride in the park, accelerating to 104 km/h in 3 seconds, with 8 360° flips and weightlessness experiences throughout, making adrenaline soar. “Transformers: Battle for the AllSpark” is a wonderful indoor 4D adventure. Visitors will become agents, take a transport robot transformed by Transformers Evac, fight side by side with Optimus Prime, and prevent Megatron from seizing the AllSpark. With a compact plot and excellent image quality, it is full of a sense of technology.
“Jurassic World Adventure” is based on the Jurassic World movie, creating a realistic prehistoric jungle scene. Visitors will take the All-Terrain Luxury Auto System (ATLAS) to enter the core area of Isla Nublar, get up close and personal with dinosaurs such as Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptor, and feel the thrill of being chased by dinosaurs. The scene restoration is extremely high, and the realistic dinosaur models can even make adult visitors exclaim. The adjacent “Jurassic Flyer” is a suspended roller coaster, allowing visitors to fly over jungles and waterfalls from the perspective of a pterosaur, enjoying the park scenery while experiencing excitement, suitable for visitors who like mild thrills.
“Minion Land” designed specifically for families with children is full of childlike fun, themed around the Despicable Me series, with bright colors and a lively atmosphere. The core ride “Despicable Me Minion Mayhem” leads visitors to join the Minions’ prank adventure through 4D technology, with a strong sense of interaction. Rides and scenes such as “Super Silly Fun Land” and “Minion Market” are suitable for young children to play, and visitors can take photos and interact with Minion characters up close to freeze the lovely moments. The world’s first “Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness” takes Chinese gardens as the keynote, restoring Po the Panda’s hometown. “Kung Fu Panda: Journey of the Dragon Warrior” adopts an indoor boat tour mode, connecting Po’s growth story, with exquisite scenes and warm plots, suitable for visitors of all ages.

In addition to the seven themed areas, Universal CityWalk Beijing and themed hotels are important parts of the resort. Universal CityWalk Beijing is accessible without a ticket, gathering a number of characteristic restaurants, themed shops, and internet-famous check-in spots. From the iconic Universal Studios globe sculpture to the Minion-themed dessert shop, it is lively during the day and bright at night, making it an excellent choice for leisure shopping and dining before and after the tour. The two themed hotels—Universal Studios Grand Hotel and NUO Resort Hotel—are both integrated with film elements. Guests can enjoy exclusive benefits such as early park entry, extending the immersive experience to the accommodation link.
For travel tips, tickets are priced in tiers: Off-Peak Day (418 yuan), Regular Day (528 yuan), Peak Day (638 yuan), and Special Day (748 yuan). International visitors can book tickets through the official App, mini-program, or authorized channels with their passports at least 3 days in advance to avoid price increases. The Express Pass is the key to saving queuing time, which can be purchased through official channels. One popular ride can be reserved every 2 hours, and it is most cost-effective to prioritize rides in the Harry Potter and Transformers areas. For transportation, it is recommended to take Metro Line 7 or Batong Line to Universal Resort Station directly. For self-driving, you can exit via Tianjiafu Station of Jingshen Expressway or Zhangjiawan North Station of the Sixth Ring Road, with regular parking at 100 yuan/day and preferred parking at 150 yuan/day.
It is recommended to visit on weekdays, as queuing time can be reduced by about 40%. Although some outdoor rides may be suspended on rainy days, the number of visitors decreases by 50%, suitable for off-peak travel. Essential items include comfortable sports shoes (walking over 20,000 steps a day), power banks, sunscreen, and portable water cups. The park allows non-commercially packaged snacks and drinking water, which can save catering expenses (per capita catering in the park is 150-200 yuan). The night light shows in the themed areas and the night view of Universal CityWalk are worth staying for. Remember to check the show time and real-time queuing data through the official App in advance, plan the route reasonably, and maximize the playing experience.
